One of Week 12’s most anticipated matchups is the New England Patriots vs. the Denver Broncos. Although both teams boast plenty of offensive star power, in honor of Thanksgiving, we’re shining the spotlight on two lesser-known, underappreciated defensive leaders: Chandler Jones of the Patriots and Von Miller of the Denver Broncos.
Quarterbacks and running backs tend to dominate the jersey ranks, which explains why Miller and Jones rank No. 49 and No. 195 respectively in overall jersey sales, according to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report. Miller bests his counterpart in the defensive jersey ranks, coming in as the No. 8 defensive player on the list. Jones sits at No. 69 despite a strong performance this season, which has many talking about him as a potential Defensive Player of the Year.
Looking at their on-field stats, it’s difficult to see why the two defensive players aren’t more popular with fans. Chandler Jones has racked up 34 sacks in less than four seasons, including 10.5 this year (just behind league-leader JJ Watt). Not to be outdone, Von Miller has totaled 55 career sacks through four-and-a-half seasons, including six this year for the Broncos.
Will one of these defensive stars steal the show and climb up the jersey sale ranks this Sunday? Or will offensive superstars like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski stand out and continue to dominate the jersey charts? Watch the NFL this Thanksgiving weekend and check back with the Jersey Report to find out.
